The building in Southwark Street in London was built by Allies and Morrison, one of the leading and biggest architectural offices in UK – for Allies and Morrison’s own use.
The manually operated, indoor mounted shutters are an essential element in the architectural expression of the façade. At the same time the unique light controlling qualities of the shutters give a very soft and pleasant light.
When the shutters close, they prevent blinding from the opposite building. They also change the color tones in the rooms, because they have different colors on their two sides.
The building was rewarded with a prestigious prize by the British Architects’ Association. Not least because of the design of the façade. Art Andersen’s yellow shutters in painted aluminium create an attractive contrast to the beautiful surfaces of the concrete.
The shutters are manually operated.
